James St, Brisbane

On a very wet and windy Thursday, I decided to go shopping and managed to drag T with me.

We ended up at James Street in fortitude valley – straight away I love this place! A gorgeous little hub of high end boutiques, gourmet markets and enticing cafés, the perfect place to waste a few hours.

Having lightened my wallet in Lorna Jane, I could hear my stomach rumbling so we headed to the closest place to grab some lunch. This happened to be right next door – Chow House. “Taste, experience and enjoy informal share style food, Inspired by the street stalls of Asia and other exotic world destinations.”

Chow House is one of those wonderful places where you just want to order every single thing on the menu. But I reigned myself in and ordered just one thing – the nasi goreng (and an orange and pineapple juice, natch). Stir fried rice with chicken and bacon and gooey fried eggs with spring onions on top. The best part is opening the egg yolk and letting the yellowy goodness ooze all over the rice…mmmmm!

T ordered the Dragon dog – Thai pork, lemongrass and garlic sausage, with bacon, tomato chilli relish, BBQ sauce and slaw on a big baguette. I had a taste of this and it was delicious.

With full bellies we ran out into the rain hoping we could beat the storm home. I will definitely come back here again, their specials board was mighty tempting, and it’s the perfect spot for a re-fuel between shops!
