Stokehouse Q

My boss very kindly gave me a voucher for Christmas, so this weekend we headed to South Bank for a leisurely lunch at Stokehouse Q.

Happily the sun was shining again after our taste of Cyclone Debbie, and we had a table right on the waterfront. Stokehouse has got to be one of Brisbane’s most perfect locations for an afternoon spent slowly sipping and eating whilst watching the river traffic meander by.

To start, I had the wagyu bresaola, dandelion leaves, macadamia skordalia, grapes. It was tasty but not altogether impressive.

T had the squid a la plancha, zucchini, basil, capsicum gazpacho. The fish was cooked very well but we didn’t think the gazpacho really worked, it was far too thin.

For main I had one of the specials – red emperor with burnt bread sauce, and a side of chips with aioli. The fish was beautifully cooked and the chippys were delicious, but the dish as a whole wasn’t very memorable.

T had the rump steak which again was cooked perfectly but perhaps the cut wasn’t the best as the meat was a little tough.

By this point we were utterly stuffed to within an inch of our lives so had to decline any dessert.

The location and wines were beautiful but the food was just ok. I would come back just for the ambience alone! Overall it was a gorgeous way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
